2008 NBA Playoffs
April 16th 2008 10:53
Hello! Ni hao! Bonjour! Welcome to my blog “Not Sure Basketball”. I'm not sure why I couldn't come up with a better name for this blog, so “Not Sure...” will have to work for now.
The NBA playoffs are almost upon us and NBA Nation could not be happier. I couldn’t be any happier either. I must introduce what NBA team my basketball loving self adores the most. My fandom rests at the doors of the Palace of Auburn Hills, home of the Detroit Pistons (or if this was the MLB, the Detroit Pistons of Auburn Hills). Growing up in Michigan, I’ve gone through some of the good and bad times of this respectable franchise. Right now, it’s never been better. This year he team is striving for a sixth straight appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals. But with the talent they have this year, anything but a Finals appearance would be a letdown.
But I don’t want to pollute you with anymore of my Detroit homer prejudice, so don’t worry. This blog will be about NBA happenings, specifically the games and the players, maybe some draft analysis too. There will be some Piston talk from time to time, especially when I feel the need to stick up for them when no one else will, but other teams and players will get theirs.
After Wednesday’s slate of games are finished, the entire playoff picture will be all set and all ready, just like a five dollar pizza from Hungry Howies. Because the Western Conference is so competitive and tight, I’ll wait until after Wednesday night to weigh in on the first round matchups. On the other hand, the Eastern Conference matchups are final. But they aren’t necessarily A quality matchups.
(1) Celtics v. (8)Hawks- The Hawks will finish the season with under 40 wins. Tell me how they can beat the team with the best record in the league? Right, they can’t and won’t. It’s a nice story, but I can’t take a team seriously that failed to win more games than they lost. Celtics in 4
(2)Pistons v. (7) Sixers- BIAS ALERT! Well, again, the Sixers are a fun story, but at every position they are inferior to the Pistons. I can see the Sixer’s pulling out one game at their place, but even that’s a stretch. Pistons in 5
(3) Magic v. (6) Raptors- The Raptors have been slowly getting worse and worse ever since the All-Star break. They are not physical enough to slow down the Superman down low for the Magic. The Raptors would probably be a fine Euro-League team, but this is the big time. Magic in 5.
(4) Cavs v. (5) Wizards- Ah, finally a quality matchup NBA Nation can salivate over. Let’s see, the Cavs play stellar grind it out defense and have Lebron on their side, while the Wizards have three legitimate All-Stars who can beat you on any given night, not to mention the X-factor Andray Blatche. Well, I guess for the 3rd year in a row it will have to be the Cavs. But I would like to see the Wizards advance. But for selfish reasons, I want the Cavs to meet the Pistons in the ECF so the Pistons can avenge last year’s fluke. So, Cavs in 6
Alright, the East is pretty lame, like I said. But the 2nd round should be entertaining.
My Western Conference playoff predictions for round 1 to follow soon.
