Olajuwon or Robinson? Part 2

September 1st 2008 06:07
Just for a bit of fun...again...

If you had the opportunity to start an NBA franchise with either Hakeem Olajuwon or David Robinson, which player would you pick and why? To further help you make your decision, I will compare their career playoff averages in this post. More will be coming in future posts to help with your decision.

So far, Hakeem Olajuwon leads David Robinson by 1 point (4 to 3).

The following formula will be used to decide the winner in career playoff averages:

The winner in these categories - FG%, 3P%, FT%, OFF, DEF, RPG, APG, SPG, BPG and PPG - will be awarded 1 point for each. The losing player in these categories will receive 0 points for each.

The player with the higher turnover and personal foul average will be deducted 1 point for each.

If there is a tie in a category, then both players will receive 0 points.

Finally, the player with the most points wins.

So here it goes:

Career Playoff Averages

Hakeem Olajuwon
G: 145 (N/A)
GS: 140 (N/A)
MPG: 39.6 (N/A)
FG%: .528 (1)
3P%: .222 (1)
FT%: .719 (1)
OFF: 3.20 (1)
DEF: 7.90 (1)
RPG: 11.20 (1)
APG: 3.2 (1)
SPG: 1.69 (1)
BPG: 3.26 (1)
TO: 2.92 (-1)
PF: 3.90 (-1)
PPG: 25.9 (1)

Points = 8

David Robinson
G: 123 (N/A)
GS: 123 (N/A)
MPG: 34.3 (N/A)
FG%: .479 (0)
3P%: .100 (0)
FT%: .708(0)
OFF: 3.00 (0)
DEF: 7.60 (0)
RPG: 10.60 (0)
APG: 2.3 (0)
SPG: 1.23 (0)
BPG: 2.54 (0)
TO: 2.28 (0)
PF: 3.40 (0)
PPG: 18.1 (0)

Points = 0

So the winner for career playoff averages is Hakeem Olajuwon. Hakeem Olajuwon also leads the overall score by 12 to 3. Stay tuned for more.

Hi -- I've sent you an email already but sometimes they don't get through. Would you like a domain for this blog? If so send an email to charles -at- orble.com (change the -at- into a @) and he will be able to set one up for you.

You may also need to add the email address admin -at- orblemail.com to your address book in order to receive Orble admin emails in the future.

Thanks,
Jon.

Yeah I think I would take Olajuwon if I were to build a franchise around a big man. The Admiral certainly had leadership qualities that were second to none, but the play-off stats of Olajuwon is what wins comps.

His ability to run the court and make plays at both ends was phenominal...bit different from the running ability of the Rockets current centre lol

There are also some other great match-ups you could consider building a franchise around. Bird V Magic, Jordan V Shaq, Duncan V Billips and most recently Kobe V Pierce. The funny thing is though is that all these players have won NBA rings but not one of the them has won it on their own.

Bird had DJ and a host of others. Magic had Kareem. Jordan had Pippin. Shaq had Penny and Kobe. Billips has the whole pistons starting roster lol, Duncan had Robinson, then Parker, Ginobli, Horry. Kobe had shaq, now Odom and Gasol. Pierce has KG and Jesus.

One man can't do it all...i think a team is only as good as its 6th and 7th man.
